Commission approves naming unnamed alignment 'Glamping Ranch Road' despite prior split vote at board level

Mohave County planning commissioners on Feb. 12 approved naming an unnamed road alignment in the Meadview vicinity "Glamping Ranch Road," a request intended to provide signage and clearer wayfinding for a commercial glamping operation accessed from the road.

Kathy Tackett Hicks, acting as the owner's agent, said the road serves a large commercial glamping operation with sites, a restaurant and recreation amenities. She said the primary purpose of the county street name is to allow placement of a sign so visitors from the Las Vegas market can find the site more easily. "The main purpose... is to get a street sign there," Tackett Hicks said.

Tackett Hicks noted the applicant has also submitted a name through the state historical naming process, which is lengthy and meets quarterly; she said the county and state processes can proceed simultaneously. Chairman Hassett and staff told the commission the same alignment had been considered previously and that the Board of Supervisors denied a prior application after a split decision; this filing was presented as a new application with a modified name.

Commission discussion included the length of the unnamed alignment, the presence of gates and private property beyond the roadside access, and uncertainty about the mailing address for the commercial operation. The commission voted to approve the requested name; the motion passed with one recorded opposition (Commissioner Juan Kirkham).
