Board spotlights Latino educator award winner and FFA student presentation

Superintendent Dr. Suzanne West used the Feb. 11 board meeting to present a district spotlight award and recognize staff and students.
West announced a district recipient of the Oregon Association of Latino Administrators’ distinguished Latino educator award and praised the honoree’s leadership and advocacy for Latino students. "He's tireless in his advocacy for change. He pushes on systems," West said while presenting the award.
The board also heard from Forest Grove FFA member Braylyn Marino, who described her state-degree application and related leadership activities. Marino summarized two supervised agricultural experiences: seasonal backyard gardening and raising a market turkey for county fair sale. Marino said she has invested more than 500 hours and about $1,500 into those projects and listed chapter and district leadership roles she has held, including chapter president and district vice president.
Marino told the board that FFA opportunities — including competitions, leadership camps and community service — helped build her public-speaking and networking skills and exposed her to potential post-high-school career paths in animal sciences.
The district recognized the award recipient and Marino on the meeting record; no board action was required.
