The proclamation, presented by a representative of Women in Need, notes that teen dating violence can be physical, psychological or technology-facilitated and cites national statistics prompting the awareness effort. Kristen, who identified herself as a representative of Women in Need, introduced the group and said the nonprofit provides programs in local schools to teach teens about healthy relationships and warning signs of abuse. Tiffany Storm, Women in Need’s director of communications and outreach, read the text of the proclamation to the court.
Why it matters: The proclamation recognizes local prevention and education work and formally asks county residents to help raise awareness and support organizations that assist victims. The group requested public acknowledgment to support its school-based programs.
Commissioners approved the proclamation by voice vote after the reading. The court paused for a photo with the presenters after the action.
The proclamation cites national prevalence figures and local education efforts; Court members thanked Women in Need for its work but did not authorize new county funding during the session.
The court will keep the proclamation on file and Women in Need indicated it will continue school outreach during February and beyond.
