The School Committee unanimously accepted a $21,482 donation from the Brockton Buccaneers football organization during the Feb. 11 meeting.
Derek Wright, president of the Brockton Buccaneers, presented the check and said the funds came from fundraising partnerships with Fiesta Shows and the Brockton Fairgrounds. Wright said the money is being donated to Brockton Public Schools; he also listed other community organizations that benefited from fundraising activity but clarified the presented check was made out to the school district.
The committee also unanimously approved a package of consent items that included a Channel 5 anchor desk donation for Brockton High School’s TV studio, an initiative to provide sneakers and winter hats at Mary E. Baker School through Shoes That Fit and the LIDS Foundation, multiple scholarships and field trips, and routine human resources notifications. Vice Chair Tony Rodriguez, Miss Oliver and other committee members thanked organizers and volunteers for community support.
Why it matters: Committee members tied the donations to student supports highlighted earlier in the meeting—food, clothing and extracurricular opportunities—and noted that community partners have helped fill needs not covered by existing operating funds.
Next steps: Superintendent Dr. Taheliani will coordinate acceptance and distribution of donated funds and supplies through district accounts and school leaders.
