RSU 04 board approves first readings for four policies; minutes approved

The RSU 04 School Board approved the minutes of its January 2025 meeting and gave first-reading approval to four district policies during its regular meeting on Feb. 11, the board said.

Board members took the votes after a brief discussion and public reports. The policies approved for first reading were DN (School Properties Disposition), IHBA (individualized education programs), ILD (student participation in educational research, surveys or evaluations), and the administrative procedure JLF-R (reporting child abuse and neglect). The board also noted it will hold a special meeting after February vacation to consider the warrant language and costs tied to the proposed closure of Sabata’s Primary School.

The board chair opened and closed each vote with the customary “all those in favor?” wording; the transcript does not record named movers, seconders or individual roll-call tallies for these motions. Materials for the Sabata’s Primary item remain under preparation and the district said final paperwork from legal counsel may arrive close to the agenda posting for the special meeting.

Board members did not adopt final policy language at this meeting; first readings were approved so the items will return for subsequent reviews and final adoption votes. The board’s personnel/policy committee also reported that a sportsmanship policy (J G JJIBB) is in development and will be brought forward separately.

The votes recorded at the meeting were procedural first-read approvals and the acceptance of meeting minutes; the board did not take final-adoption votes on the policies at this session.
