Groveport Madison presents revised program of studies; board schedules second read in March

Curriculum staff presented a redesign of the Groveport Madison Local high school program of studies and told the board the document will return for a final vote at the board’s March meeting.

Staff said departments reviewed and updated course descriptions over the winter; the draft given to the board converts the guide into a more user-friendly, digital format with active links and clearer tables. Curriculum staff said the updates include standardized course descriptions, notation of state tests or web-based exams when relevant, and restored electives such as French III where sufficient student interest exists.

Board members asked about distribution to families and whether the document would be printed. Staff said the primary distribution will be digital (email/Chromebook access) with a limited number of printed copies at school sites; the document includes clickable navigation for the digital copy. Curriculum staff asked board members to submit any additional suggestions by Feb. 28 so counselors and departments can review changes in time for the March public vote. The presenter said any newly added courses or major changes would be highlighted for the board at the second read.

What was decided: The board scheduled a second reading and final vote on the program-of-studies update at the March regular meeting. Staff will circulate any subsequent department edits and highlight new items for board review.

What wasn’t decided: No final course additions were approved at this first reading. Staff said one additional College Credit Plus course will be added before the second read and that departments must confirm staffing and student interest before new honors sections are created.

Next steps: Staff will collect board comments, confirm any scheduling or staffing implications with high-school administration, and publish a highlighted draft for the board by Feb. 28.
