School committee approves two assistant‑superintendent positions

The Springfield School Committee unanimously approved two assistant‑superintendent positions aimed at expanding the district’s leadership structure.

Superintendent Dr. Denholm described the assistant superintendent for community engagement, family empowerment and partnerships as a role born from the district’s 100‑day findings and community outreach events (Super Saturday and Super Sunday). The position’s job description, included in the committee packet, emphasizes community engagement and partner development to advance the district’s strategic priorities.

The committee also approved restructuring the vacated administrative role into an assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and professional development following Dr. Balch’s departure; the new position will absorb and expand several responsibilities formerly handled by the departing administrator, including supervision of key departments.

Both motions passed by roll call with recorded "Yes" votes from Mister Gonzales, Attorney Murphy, Mister Collins, Miss Gresham, Miss Hurst, Miss Monroe Naylor and Mayor Sarno.
