San Marino schools tout Blue Ribbon, high AP pass rates and signature programs including Medical Arts Academy

SAN MARINO, Calif. — District leaders used the Feb. 11 State of the District address to highlight student outcomes and showcase signature programs that officials said helped drive high rankings and college placements.
Dr. Scott DelaTorre and assistant superintendent Dr. Linda Richter cited multiple honors and test results: the district reported a 99% graduation rate, statewide rankings that placed San Marino among the top performing unified districts for English language arts and math on the 2024 state assessment, and strong national-percentile performance on NWEA for grades 6–12. Dr. Richter also noted that 90% of students in grades K–5 score at or above grade level on the i-Ready diagnostic.
San Marino High School principal Dr. Wolf described national recognitions: the high school received a National Blue Ribbon award and AP Honor Roll platinum status. He provided school-level CAASPP figures, saying high school students scored about 94% proficient or advanced in English language arts and 87% proficient or advanced in math this year; he added that, among comprehensive high schools, San Marino ranked at or near the top in California. Dr. Wolf credited community partnerships — citing Caltech and the Huntington Library for STEM and humanities work and PT Affiliates for support of the Medical Arts Academy — as central to program success.
The Medical Arts Academy, now in its third year, will add a freshman biomedical science class and a senior honors anatomy and physiology class next year, both using Anatomage virtual-dissection tables donated by PT Affiliates, officials said. The high school also reported robust AP participation and pass rates: to earn AP Honor Roll platinum status the school said it met rigorous thresholds for AP participation and success across large portions of the student body.
Elementary and middle school principals described site-level successes: Carver and Valentine elementaries were recognized as California Distinguished Schools and National Blue Ribbon schools; Huntington Middle School described substantial wellness visits to on-campus counseling spaces and expanded Mandarin-speaking counseling support. The Mandarin dual language immersion program — including kindergarten and first-grade cohorts — performed at the meeting, and district leaders said a third cohort will begin in the fall.
Officials said they will publish a full list of college acceptances for the class of 2025 once final matriculation is confirmed.
