The Logansport Parks and Recreation Board approved three hires for seasonal and maintenance roles during its regular meeting.
Jan (Parks and Recreation Administrator) presented three candidates and recommended hiring Gracie Kitchall as pool manager, Valeria Cortez as assistant pool manager and Chuck Simpson as a maintenance assistant. "She was certainly impressive," Jan said of Kitchall, noting Kitchall has worked on the pool staff for two or three years and is a sophomore at Indiana University studying music.
Jan described Valeria Cortez as active in extracurricular work, including stage work at the McHale auditorium and caretaking responsibilities at home, and recommended her for assistant pool manager. Jan introduced Chuck Simpson as a maintenance assistant transferring from the street department; Jan said Simpson operates a backhoe and has skills the parks department needs.
A board member moved to hire all three at once; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The motion included no recorded roll-call vote in the transcript. The hires will allow the parks department to staff pool operations and to use Simpson's equipment skills for maintenance tasks. The transcript did not specify starting dates or salaries for the hires.
