Montpelier Board of Civil Authority reappoints leadership, authorizes poll-worker list

The Board of Civil Authority of the city of Montpelier met briefly before the city council session and completed several organizational items, including swearing in justices of the peace, electing leadership and affirming voter lists.
The board administered oaths to newly present justices of the peace and then moved quickly into organizational business. By unanimous voice votes, members elected Jack McCullough as chair and John Odom as vice chair of the Board of Civil Authority; authorized members of the voter checklist to be eligible to serve as poll workers; and formally acknowledged receipt of lists of new registrants, purged voters and voters transferred out of town since the previous town meeting.
The acknowledgment of voter lists was described by the chair as a ministerial step that required affirmation rather than further action. The board then adjourned the civil authority meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Those actions were taken without recorded roll-call tallies in the meeting transcript; members indicated approval by voice. The board’s quick handling of these items preceded the city council meeting that followed.
