PPBC delegates three upcoming projects to building maintenance and DPW teams

Hank (project staff) presented a memo identifying projects expected to exceed $500,000: the Elliott School boiler replacement (construction estimate $560,000), Needham High School front-step repair (estimate $1,040,000) and the Cooks Bridge/Cooks Bridal sewer pump station replacement (estimate $3,859,000). Hank and Karis (engineering staff) said the first two projects could be handled by the building maintenance department using existing on-call designer and engineering contracts, while the sewer pump station — mostly underground work with a small aboveground enclosure — will likely require a separate RFQ for a 1:49 project and engineering design services.
Committee members expressed support for delegating the Elliott boiler and high-school steps work to Barry and his building-maintenance team and for having the engineering department manage the pump station procurement with DPW participation. The committee did not take an explicit roll-call vote; members confirmed consensus to proceed with delegation and instructed staff to move forward with RFQ and contract steps as needed.

For the pump station, staff noted involvement from the superintendent of water and sewer and planned RFQ steps to secure a design firm experienced with belowground pumping stations.
