Sunnyvale reports return of events, higher permit volume; job fair, Earth Day and movie series planned for 2025

At the Jan. 12 meeting the Parks and Recreation Commission received an update on 2024 special events activity and the department's 2025 plans, including a March job fair, an April Earth Day festival and the 40th annual Hands on the Arts.
Michelle Bridal Ragsdale, recreation services manager and the division's special events lead, told commissioners the department supported more than 80 events across the city in 2024 and issued 67 special-event permits. Of those permits, 53 were issued to outside groups and 14 to internal city departments. Downtown activity increased last year: the Sunnyvale Downtown Association produced 17 concert nights and the downtown recorded 68 events including the farmers market, artisan market, tree lighting and other programs.
