Superintendent highlights $18,000 Dig Pink fundraising, urges TK registration amid budget planning

Superintendent Prewitt reported to the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District board on Feb. 10 that community fundraising and site-level planning are shaping the district's budget work for the coming year.
"They ended up earning over $18,000," Prewitt said of the district's Dig Pink fundraising, calling it one of the higher totals in more than 10 years. He credited community support and said the funds reflected strong local participation.
Prewitt also said district staff and site teams have been meeting to identify next-year funding priorities and professional development needs to reduce last-minute budget surprises. He asked the community to promote transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten registration so the district can plan staffing and facilities for next year.
The superintendent noted the district will hold a facilities workshop on Feb. 21 to discuss prioritizing facility work and funding sources. He also reiterated that the district is reviewing its budget for potential changes to maintain fiscal strength while seeking to minimize impacts to classrooms.
Board members added that they attended recent community events, including a dads' conference and mothers' mental-health conference, and praised district clinicians for their work. The board did not take formal action on the budget planning discussion; Prewitt said workshops and follow-up are planned.
