Human services report: updated senior nutrition guidance, temporary rotation in Indian Child Welfare leadership

Jennifer Kirby, representing human services, told the council that the department’s regular report was before members and staff were available to answer questions.

"You have our report. If you, I'll be happy to answer any questions. Always lots going on in human services," Kirby said.

Kirby told council members that the senior nutrition site guidelines and an updated site location list are posted on Cherokee.org under Family Assistance and that the department is working to keep that information current as new sites open.

Doctor Condesa Teehee said the council and attendees were "saddened by the departure of Lou Stretch and her retirement after a long period of service with Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare," and asked whether the name listed in the report was a permanent replacement. Kirby said the department is using a rotation of directors while it searches for a permanent replacement and encouraged members to contact the listed person in the report or reach out to Leah or Kirby directly for assistance. Kirby said there was no ETA for a permanent appointment.

Kirby also confirmed that the newest contact information listed for the senior director of Fire Victim Services reflected a permanent appointment.

The department did not provide additional new numeric program details during the discussion; Kirby referred members to the written report and to staff for follow‑up.

The committee moved on after a brief question period; Kirby offered to share the updated guidelines with council members and staff.

Less critical details: members expressed appreciation for staff work at the senior nutrition site in Stillwell and asked for the department to continue sharing updated materials and contacts.
