Councilors praise new Cherokee Nation Head Start early childhood facility on tour; staff report intern placements

Councilors who attended the tour called the building “state of the art,” noting the larger classrooms and design features intended to expand enrollment. Thompson said the Tahlequah facility serves children from Cherokee County and surrounding counties and that the program has scaled up from much smaller earlier sites.
Councilor Lisa Hall noted the facility is located in District 3 and said she looks forward to the move. Thompson also reported the unit is hosting an intern from Northeastern State University (NSU) assigned to a Head Start classroom.
On logistics, Thompson and Kelly (in an earlier report) described ongoing moves of TARO and the learning center into nearby spaces; councilors were told staff are working to resolve building wiring and access issues carried over from the site’s prior use as a call center. Councilors offered praise and no formal action was taken.
