Committee members agreed to shift several Centennial event dates to increase participation and to avoid conflicts with other regional events.
Why it matters: The committee is trying to maximize turnout for Centennial activities by rescheduling near-term events that had low sign-up numbers and by avoiding calendar conflicts with other local events.
The committee reviewed registrations and promotional timelines and discussed moving the business expo, fishing tournament and other events. Member Kim McCurry and others said early registration counts were low and suggested postponing events that were still in preprint for shirts and flyers. After consulting Venues staff (Patty) and a tour of the events calendar, the committee identified several alternative Wednesday dates in April and, by consensus, selected April 30 for the fishing tournament and event day activities that had been scheduled for the end of February.
The golf scramble date was returned to its previously planned date (the committee referenced the originally scheduled “20th/20 eighth” week) to give organizers more time to recruit teams and lock in a course. Members agreed the change gives staff time to finish printed materials and to reach more vendors and sponsors. Patty (venue liaison) confirmed the April 30 slot was available and blocked it in the city calendar.
Ending: Staff will notify registered participants of the date changes, update the event pages and the registration forms, and reissue any printed materials. Committee members asked staff to confirm availability of vendors and event captains before finalizing additional moves.
