Paulding County honors STAR students, teachers; East Paulding recognizes fallen trooper

The Paulding County Board of Education recognized the district’s STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) students and their teachers during its Feb. 11 meeting, and the superintendent thanked local schools for a memorial honoring Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jimmy Sinskar.
Dr. Cole Dawes of the school leadership department introduced STAR students and their nominated teachers from East Paulding, Hiram, North Paulding, Paulding County and South Paulding high schools. The district winner, Christopher Goulev of North Paulding High School, told the board he scored 1,500 on the SAT. Sponsors included the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce and MembersFirst Credit Union, which donated monetary awards for the students and teachers.
Superintendent Steve Barnett also acknowledged a memorial shadow box dedicated at Paulding County High School to honor Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jimmy Sinskar, who was killed in the line of duty in January 2024. Barnett said the event at Paulding County High School was attended by law enforcement from around the state and family members, and that the district will coordinate with the fire marshal and other offices when appropriate for future acknowledgements.
Why it matters: the recognition highlights high-achieving seniors and the teachers who supported them; the memorial note acknowledges a local officer whose death affected the community.
Students and teachers recognized (as introduced at the meeting): East Paulding — Hana and teacher Avery Hall; Hiram High School — Valeria Cisneros and Kevin Rhodes; North Paulding — Christopher Goulev and Paul Daniels (district winner, SAT 1,500); Paulding County High School — Luke Pike and Shay Roberts; South Paulding High School — Kayla Roscoe and Linda Dedmon.
The board chair and superintendent thanked the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce, PAGE, MembersFirst and district staff for organizing the awards.
The JROTC from Hiram High School presented the pledge of allegiance earlier in the meeting.
