Rockwood presents 2024–25 annual report: district highlights student outcomes, graduation and AP gains

David Morrison, communications coordinator, introduced the annualreport.rsdm0.org site and turned the presentation to Glenn Hancock, director of research, evaluation and assessment, who summarized state and local assessment outcomes. Hancock said the district has nearly 19,000 students and about 3,400 teachers and staff; he cited staff qualifications including 83% of instructional staff holding advanced degrees, an average of 14 years’ experience and 47 National Board–certified teachers.
Hancock said the district continues to compare favorably with state averages in many grade bands. He described recent gains in early literacy following a change in the reading program and said winter STAR assessments show improved kindergarten and first-grade outcomes; he also described STAR- and MAP-based analyses used to monitor reading and math across elementary and secondary grades. Hancock noted that some grade-level results fluctuate and that the district is using released test items and newly available state testlets to align classroom assessments with state priority standards.
On college and career readiness, Hancock reported that Rockwood students completed 4,312 Advanced Placement (AP) exams last spring across 1,987 students and that 895 students earned an AP Scholar Award. He said roughly 67% of recent graduates go on to four‑year colleges, about 16% to two‑year colleges, roughly 11% pursue trade/other pathways or did not respond to follow-up, and about 4.5% enter employment immediately; about 1% join the military. Hancock said about 68% of graduates earn at least one college credit through AP or dual‑enrollment programs.
Hancock and Morrison also noted fiscal and operational recognitions: the district has received sustained budget awards and meritorious ratings (including a meritorious budget award for 25 consecutive years), and the finance department has been recognized for fiscal responsibility.
Board members asked several detailed questions about subgroup performance, cohort growth, and how many children the district’s student-group definition includes; Hancock said the district will provide more item-level and subgroup breakdowns on request. The presentation closed with board appreciation for staff and a note that the district will publish the report to the community site.
No board action was taken on the annual report; staff said they will continue to share the published report and provide more detailed breakdowns to the board on request.
