MPO advances Metropolitan Transportation Plan, issues state Transportation Project Fund call deadlines

Mesilla Valley MPO staff reported that the Metropolitan Transportation Plan update is nearing completion and outlined a schedule to finalize the long-range plan before the Mobility 2045 plan expires on June 30, 2025. Staff described stakeholder meetings, public outreach plans and a required adoption timeline.
Staff also opened the state Transportation Project Fund (TPF) call for projects, detailing eligibility, application components and a submission schedule. Key TPF dates: feasibility form due March 21, 2025 at noon; a technical meeting with NMDOT on March 28, 2025; full application due April 2, 2025; committee ranking recommendations in April–May; final policy board ranking and action planned for May 14, 2025; MPO upload to NMDOT FTP by May 31, 2025. Staff emphasized the TPF program is state-funded and can cover planning, design, construction and right-of-way acquisition, and noted a 5% local match requirement.
On the MTP, staff said most Mobility 2045 elements will carry forward; the MPO will hold three public meetings (north, central, south MPO area) during April as the final public outreach; the draft plan will proceed to BPAC, TAC and the policy board for recommendation and adoption in June. Board members encouraged staff to coordinate public-notice efforts with local public-affairs offices to maximize participation.
