Liz and HR staff presented proposed edits to Section 3B (administrative personnel) and Section 3D (classified personnel) policies for the board’s consideration.
Key administrative proposals would remove overly prescriptive evaluation language to allow annual evaluations with built‑in flexibility, delete a former requirement that administrators complete a physical every two years, and move detailed job duties and salary‑schedule wording out of board policy into Human Resources maintenance so the district can update administrative job descriptions without a full board policy revision. Staff said they will retain principal duties in policy while making other administrative descriptions maintained by HR.
On classified personnel, the district clarified that non‑contract classified staff are subject to suspension and dismissal and that the superintendent or a designee may terminate or suspend a non‑contract employee with or without pay and report that action to the board. The draft also clarifies language for classified employees who do hold contracts.
Board members asked whether the policy provides for interim or acting superintendents in unexpected circumstances (death, extended incapacity). Staff said the existing language does not explicitly address short‑term acting superintendent arrangements but agreed to draft language for review before first reading. Another member suggested the superintendent’s vacation approval remain with the full board rather than just the board president; staff acknowledged the recommendation and said they would incorporate the change prior to first reading if desired.
No formal vote occurred; staff will bring revised wording to the board for the first reading.
