The Simsbury Open Space Committee on Feb. 5 agreed to begin work toward a consolidated natural-resource inventory and asked staff to post meeting minutes and agendas earlier to enhance public engagement and allow members time for review.
Committee members said the inventory would compile elements now spread across multiple documents — for example, old-growth forest records, trap rock ridges, and other town-specific natural resources — into a single narrative with photos, maps and links. One member said good model documents from other Connecticut towns could be used as templates and proposed chipping away at the project over a year or two.
On administrative matters, members asked that draft minutes be made available to committee members promptly after preparation so reviewers can comment while events remain fresh. One member asked, "If we could post our meetings, not wait till the day before the meeting... Friday would be preferable," to allow better public notice and attendance. Staff said they would ask the town manager's office to set calendar reminders to post agendas and minutes earlier than the usual Monday posting.
The committee identified a next work group meeting on March 5 and said it would seek model documents from towns such as Norfolk or Canton as examples for the inventory format. No formal vote was taken; the group agreed to advance the work in future work-group sessions.
