Jamie Luchik was elected chair of the Simsbury Sustainability Committee and Baird Faithful was elected vice chair during the committee’s February meeting.
The outgoing committee member, who presided over the meeting, said he would submit a formal resignation after the session. "I'm not gonna be officially a member. So, after this meeting, I will submit my resignation," he said. Committee members noted that, with that resignation and another long-absent member on the roster, two at-large seats will be open.
The committee opened nominations for chair and formally nominated Luchik. There was a second and the committee approved her nomination by voice vote. Luchik accepted the position. The committee then nominated Faithful for vice chair, received a second and approved the nomination by voice vote.
Members discussed the procedural steps the town uses to fill committee vacancies. The clerk will confirm whether replacements must come from the same political party as the departing members and whether an absent member should be removed for nonattendance. Committee members said they will coordinate with the town clerk to complete required paperwork.
The meeting also included routine procedural votes to start the meeting, approve the January minutes and adjourn at the end of the session.
The newly elected chair and vice chair will lead committee planning for events and the group’s ongoing work on energy and waste initiatives.
