EEAC finalizes questions for Tigard-Tualatin SD 23J cabinet, schedules virtual SIP/EACH reviews

The Equity and Engagement Advisory Committee (EEAC) met Feb. 3 to finalize questions for the district cabinet roundtable, schedule upcoming reviews of school continuous improvement (SIP) and EACH plans, and discuss equity issues including high absenteeism among English-language learners, pay-to-play costs for school sports and apparent disparities in multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).

The committee agreed to hold its March 3 meeting virtually to accommodate a presentation by Margie Green of the Tigard-Tualatin Schools Foundation and to make it easier for members to review SIP and EACH documents. Chair Degraw said the EEAC will send its compiled questions to cabinet so district leaders can prepare for a cabinet roundtable planned for April 28. Chair Degraw also told members she will present an update on EEAC work to the school board on Feb. 10.

Why it matters: The EEAC’s questions and plan reviews are intended to track district progress on long-standing equity goals, including items that originated in the district’s 2019 equity audit and the committee’s 2023–24 annual report.
