Bill would restore confidential plate status for retired Missouri law-enforcement officers

Representative Doyle Justice described House Bill 138 as a narrow, technical change to the Revised Statutes of Missouri that would allow active and retired law-enforcement officers who previously had confidential license plates to retain that confidentiality after retirement.
"I had a constituent ... he was a retired law enforcement officer ... he had confidential plates. And when he went to the license bureau, he requested them to be confidential and they said, well, the law has changed and they can no longer be confidential," Representative Doyle Justice said, recounting the constituent's experience that led to the bill.
Justice told the committee the change would restore confidentiality for retired officers who qualify and that the provision was previously attached to other Department of Revenue legislation in the prior session.
No public witnesses appeared in favor or opposition at this hearing. The chair closed the hearing on House Bill 138 with no committee action recorded at the meeting.
