Sequim adopts TIP amendment to fund pedestrian crossing and signal upgrades on Third and Fifth

The Sequim City Council voted to adopt an amendment to the 2025–2030 Transportation Improvement Program at its Feb. 10 meeting, allowing the city to pursue a Highway Safety Improvement Program grant for pedestrian crossing and traffic-signal upgrades on Third and Fifth streets.
City transportation staff told the council that adopting the amendment is a step toward acquiring a consultant to begin design work; the city’s next deadline to submit the amended TIP to the state is Feb. 21. Staff said this project follows earlier work to upgrade cameras and will fund cabinet components, pedestrian push-button upgrades and, in later phases, hardware purchases such as dedicated left-turn signals and improved traffic-flow monitoring.
The council opened a public hearing on the modification; no members of the public provided in-person or remote testimony during the hearing portion. A council member moved and the motion was seconded; the council voted to adopt the modified TIP and the motion passed.
Staff said the amendment moves the project into the near-term years of the TIP so the city can access the Highway Safety Improvement Program funds and begin design and subsequent construction steps once consultants are procured.
The action directs staff to submit the adopted amendment to the state by the Feb. 21 deadline and to proceed with consultant selection and preliminary design work.
