Committee members heard details for an Olden TNG Disc Golf Club tournament set for April 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.; the presenter said the event charges $50 per person or $90 per team and that collected fees will pay for prizes and awards rather than the club itself. The presenter said the club expects to place one tent at Hole 1, may hand out pizza to participants, and will provide its own trash removal. The committee was told city departments — police, fire and services — flagged no issues and that an additional portable toilet will be provided for the site.
The committee also reviewed the Columbus Ice Bowl, described in the meeting as a sanctioned PGGA event that is a multi-round tournament across Central Ohio; the presenter said fees collected support the sanctioning and related donations and food drives. Committee members confirmed a portable toilet delivery is due by the end of the week so it will be on site for that event and other upcoming disc-golf gatherings.
Committee members and staff discussed whether the city should invest in “hard” or permanent facilities as the sport grows. Committee members said most course maintenance and equipment replacement historically has been done by local clubs, with clubs adding features such as extra pavers, long and short tees, glow paint for night play and, in at least one case, an Eagle Scout volunteer committed to building footbridges over wet areas. The committee agreed adding a second portable toilet was an appropriate near-term response and suggested the parks committee consider longer-term capital improvements if demand continues to grow.
City staff identified event sponsors in the record: Mister West and Disc Golf Emporium were listed as sponsors for the April tournament; a brewery sponsorship request (Noctua Brewing Company) was noted as not approved. The Events staff confirmed a short site map and a plan for a single vendor tent had been provided to the committee.
Committee members asked staff to keep the parks committee apprised of any future capital requests tied to disc-golf facilities and to maintain coordination with safety forces for larger events.
