District to monitor winter weather; STEAM Night scheduled Thursday

District staff told the Flossmoor SD 161 Board of Education that they were "closely monitoring" a winter weather advisory affecting the area and coordinating with neighboring high schools as they decide on closures.
Staff said the advisory was scheduled to run from 9 a.m. tomorrow through 3 a.m. Thursday, and that several nearby districts in South Cook planned closures. After consulting with area high school leaders, staff reported the district's current plan was to hold in-person learning the next day but to cancel after-school activities and games; the district said it would notify families early in the morning, around 6 a.m., if that plan changes.
Staff also highlighted District 161bs STEAM Night at Parker scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m., noting a range of student demonstrations, Project Sincere participation, food trucks and increased RSVPs. Staff asked families to note that no after-school activities were planned for the following day to ease snow-clearing logistics.
Board members said staff should continue to monitor conditions overnight and communicate changes promptly to families. The board reconvened after an executive session and resumed public business at 8:10 p.m.
