Commission finalizes rewritten landmark submittals; city signature and fire-house (Eagle Hose) review remain

The Grass Valley Historic Commission reported progress on landmark nomination submittals after condensing and reformatting earlier drafts to meet the reviewing authority’s format requirements.

Commission members Diane and Teresa described work to compress what had been a very large, repetitive submission into a shorter packet the commission believes conforms to the required format. The commission agreed the rewritten package needs appropriate signature and dating before it is formally submitted; members discussed whether the city clerk (Miranda) or another city signatory should sign the packets.

On the Eagle Hose (fire-house) nomination, the commission noted mixed signals: staff member Amy had said the sawmill packet required reformatting while the Eagle Hose Company nomination might proceed to review without a full resubmission. Diane said she had contacted a local person (Jerry Martinez) and would follow up to confirm historical details and dates for the Eagle Hose submission.

The commission also discussed funding and monument logistics in parallel: commissioners said historically the county did not pay for erecting plaques and that applicants typically supply or raise funds for plaques and interpretive panels. The commission assigned follow-up tasks to secure signatures and to confirm whether the city or another party will provide necessary materials and whether the county or city would bear any costs.
