Beale Air Show returns in June with Thunderbirds; base warns of flight restrictions, limited passes

Lieutenant Colonel J.C. Gorman, airshow director for Beale Air Force Base, told the Grass Valley City Council that the base will host an air show in June 2025 featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and multiple military and civilian demonstration acts. "We have an airshow from June, and so we're really excited," Gorman said during the council's regular meeting.
The event will also include a full STEM area for children, displays such as an F-18 cockpit photo opportunity and educational exhibits, a Veterans Day/preview day for military ID holders the Friday before the public show, and two public show days on Saturday and Sunday. "We have a full up STEM area," Gorman said, describing hands-on exhibits and mini jet drives for children.
Why it matters: the air show will affect local traffic and airspace. Gorman and other presenters warned of a temporary flight restriction near Beale, and repeated that public tickets will be free but limited. "We're gonna have a temporary flight restriction in place," Gorman said, describing the restriction as covering airspace up to 18,000 feet for a five‑mile radius around the base during the event window. He and community liaisons urged attendees to obtain the required passes in advance via the event website they cited.
Beale representatives said community partnership is part of the event plan. Sammy Nall, chair of the Beale Military Liaison Council, said the BMLC is coordinating volunteer opportunities, vendor participation and premium experiences for community members. "BMLC is helping to coordinate volunteer opportunities, vendor opportunities, sponsorships," Nall said.
Officials said tickets and passes will be released in coming weeks and stressed that access to the base will require a pass and may be capacity-limited. Gorman said organizers will publish ticket information online and encouraged residents to secure passes early.
The presentation closed with an invitation for local businesses and residents to volunteer or serve as vendors for STEM outreach and other community activities connected with the show.
