Commissioners discuss Travelers Highlands improvement district advisory board and reserves

County counsel and staff described the advisory panel as an informal, locally based body that historically identified needed drainage and maintenance projects and then requested district funds for approval by the board. Counsel advised that the county board may appoint new advisory members or advertise for volunteers; staff suggested outreach by phone or email and possibly formal advertisement before appointing replacements.
Commissioners and staff noted there appears to be roughly a quarter‑million dollars in the district reserve account available for maintenance work, and they proposed inviting prospective advisory board members to present at a future meeting so the board could appoint them. Staff recommended scheduling that outreach for the first meeting in March to provide time to contact potential appointees.
No final appointment was made at the meeting. Commissioners asked staff to reach out to the named local residents identified by George Strong and to return with options on how to formalize the advisory board or otherwise manage spending from the PID reserves.
