The Board of Appeals of the Town of Norwood on Feb. 11 voted to approve an application by William (Bill) Naman to enclose an existing nonconforming side/front porch at 62 Winter Street.
Naman, the property owner, said the house was the first built on Winter Street and that the current porch will be removed, reframed and enclosed to create a mudroom; the work does not increase the building footprint. The board said the change would not increase the nonconformity and would make the house read more as a front‑facing home on the street.
The board opened a public hearing, received the applicant’s presentation and asked technical questions about windows, setback and vegetation. Board members clarified that an existing window on the right elevation will become interior to the new enclosed space and that a small ornamental tree between properties sits on the neighbor’s land. No members of the public spoke in opposition.
After closing the public hearing, the board voted to approve the request as presented. The motion to approve was moved by Al (Allen) and seconded by Matt; recorded votes were Matt — yes, Rachel — yes, Shannon — yes, Al — yes.
The applicant may now proceed with the work in accordance with the approved plans on file with the Zoning Board of Appeals and any routine building‑permit review and inspections required by the Building Department.
