Commissioners allocate Blue Triton funds to recycling, energy and community foundation events

The Chaffee County Board of County Commissioners approved use of discretionary funds that Blue Triton (under its extended 1041 permit) provides annually to the county, directing $12,000 to local program memberships and a community event sponsorship.
County staff recommended and the board approved the following allocations from the Blue Triton discretionary bucket: $3,000 to Recycle Colorado (silver membership), $4,000 to Energy Smart Colorado (annual membership and to support county energy rebate programs), and $5,000 to the Chaffee County Community Foundation to sponsor its nonprofit community summit (either via cash or a mix of cash and fairgrounds fee waiver). "Those memberships are for the county benefit... and some technical assistance that they provide for our community," staff said.
Staff explained the fund is replenished annually by Blue Triton and noted an estimated balance dedicated to water health and sustainability work of roughly $130,000 after this allocation. The board did not link the allocation decision to any pending compliance review of Blue Triton's permit; commissioners clarified the funding decision uses existing discretionary dollars and is separate from any ongoing 1041/permit compliance process.
A motion to assign the funds passed unanimously.
