Commissioners appoint Nick Alexander chair, Jeff Short vice chair; approve Dec. 2 minutes as amended

The Roseville Parks and Recreation Commission on Feb. 3 appointed Commissioner Nick Alexander as chair and Commissioner Jeff Short as vice chair and approved the commission’s Dec. 2, 2024, meeting minutes as amended.

Jill Geller, the city’s Parks, Recreation and Libraries director, told commissioners the appointments follow the city’s boards and commissions administrative standards and that the individuals chosen will be seated at the next meeting. “There are no limitations on the number of consecutive terms a commissioner may serve as chair or vice chair, provided they’re appointed or reappointed to the commission,” Geller said.

The commission followed a nomination process. A commissioner nominated Alexander for chair, the nomination was seconded, and Alexander accepted. Commissioners then nominated and seconded Jeff Short for vice chair; the commission voted to approve both appointments during the meeting. The meeting record shows the chair and vice chair will begin their roles at the next meeting, per the administrative standards Geller cited.

The commission also approved the draft minutes for its Dec. 2, 2024, meeting as amended to include the mover’s requested language regarding the naming of Rocky Rockholme Park. A commissioner said they intended the name to read “in memory of the late Rocky Rockholme,” and the commission accepted that wording into the record before approving the minutes.

These actions were taken during the consent and leadership-appointment items of the Feb. 3 agenda. No appeals or legal challenges were raised at the meeting regarding either the appointments or the minutes approval.
