Engineering updates: Grant Street closeout, upcoming lettings, demolition and park paving plans

Engineering staff provided a wide-ranging project update at the Feb. 10 meeting, reporting progress and near-term schedules on street, development and park projects across the city.
Key items included a closeout pending for Grant Street Phase 1 once final NDOT documents are received and a July 9 letting scheduled for Grant Street Phase 2. The Milestone contractor is scheduled to resume work on the Fordyce project March 1; staff said they are coordinating utility relocations and a fire hydrant move so the contractor can proceed toward an August 1 turnover and road opening.
Staff reported progress on several redevelopment and commercial projects: inspections for Boone County Cake Company concrete work, first pay application approved for Oaks on Maine, and that the RDC will consider a development agreement for the Eichmann Exchange (Colliers Corner and Lido projects were also discussed). Engineering said a request later in the meeting would seek closing Main Street for installation work (the Oaks on Main crane lift request discussed and approved by the board).
Park-related project notes included a revised concept plan released for Old Street Garage, a comfort-letter submitted to IDEM for review, scheduled pickleball-court reconstruction at Memorial Park under contract with Globe Paving starting later in spring, fishing-pier railings under fabrication, and a perimeter-path paving first phase at Abner Longley Park with Ace Paving anticipated to start April 1.
Engineering also reported a scheduled preconstruction meeting for the 2011 resurfacing program on Feb. 18, final touch-up work on Leap Road projects, and an outstanding CSX schedule to install crossing arms at two locations (CSX scheduled for February, per staff). The department closed its update by saying those were the project highlights and invited questions from the board.
