Earth Day cleanup date moved to April 26; ordinance committee forwards event to full council pending recreation confirmation

Organizers of the Lawrence City Earth Day cleanup told the Ordinance Committee on Feb. 11 that the event date has been moved from April 19 to April 26, 2025, because Easter falls on the original weekend. The committee voted to forward document 538-24 to the full City Council with a favorable recommendation pending written confirmation from the Recreation Department.
Miss Gruyon, representing the cleanup organizers, said the Recreation Department confirmed availability for April 26 and that the group typically assembles at a central location, historically Campagnon Common, before dispersing volunteers across parks. Committee members asked her to send the Recreation Department email confirmation and other documentation to clerk Teresa and to copy committee members for the packet.
Councilor Gregor Del Rosario asked how parks are selected; Miss Gruyon said the organizers typically focus on the commons and a set of parks including Manchester Street Park, Immigrant Park, O'Connell, and others along the Spicket River corridor, and that they are exploring other parks during the season.
The committee amended the referral to include the revised date (April 26) and asked staff to include the Recreation Department documentation. The motion to send the item to the full council with a favorable recommendation pending receipt of that documentation carried on a roll call with members present voting yes and one member noted absent.
