The Budget and Finance Committee of the Village of Jackson recommended on Feb. 11 that the Village Board approve a $1,636,443.05 contract for the Ridgeway Drive and Chestnut Court reconstruction project.
Committee members said the project produced lower bids on the rebid and will include two features that will be special assessed to adjacent property owners. Municipal staff summarized the bids and recommended awarding the contract to Advanced Construction (the apparent low bidder) with Peterson as the other responsive bidder.
The committee’s recommendation follows staff remarks that the rebid produced an approximate savings of $400,000 compared with last summer’s bids. Staff noted two line items that will be special assessed: 4-inch-diameter storm laterals at $60 per linear foot and 4-inch concrete sidewalk at $6.60 per square foot. Staff said the two lowest bids were within roughly $28,000–$29,000 of each other.
Committee member Heckendorf moved to recommend Village Board approval of the contract in the amount of $1,636,443.05; Wells seconded the motion. The committee approved the recommendation by voice vote.
The staff recommendation included Alternate 1 and Alternate 2 in the contract price and left Alternate 3 as a possible special assessment for an apartment building with recurring flooding in its parking lot. Staff said keeping Alternate 2 provides flexibility to work with the contractor if an alternative solution is identified during construction.
The committee’s recommendation will go to the Village Board for final action and for establishing the special-assessment details and final contract award.
