Crosby ISD board approves 2025–26 academic calendar after stakeholder survey favored early-release option

The presenter told trustees the site-based committee began work in November, refined draft calendars after an ice-storm reschedule and surveyed stakeholders Feb. 3–7; the two drafts differed only by two early-release dates. The district reported it received 1,085 survey responses, with 71% favoring the option that included the early-release dates.
Under the approved Option 2, students return in August and the calendar includes 163 instructional days in a hybrid schedule. Staff clarified there is one Friday in May during the last week of STAR administration when students are in session; early-release Fridays in December and May are included for semester wrap-up. The calendar uses a set of orange/red-box days to be used for inclement-weather makeup or other emergencies; those days remain available should the district need to make up time outside commissioner- or governor-designated state emergency days.
Trustees asked about teacher start dates, the length of January instructional weeks and the location of make-up days on the calendar; staff said teachers’ return dates were consistent with the draft options and that the committee had considered a four-day January option but retained the current layout after staff feedback.
Trustee Humphreys moved to approve the 2025–26 Crosby ISD academic calendar, Option 2; Trustee Thomas seconded. The board recorded the vote as 4–0 in favor and the motion carried.
