Comptroller reports January revenues; city administrator lists upcoming events and project updates

At the meeting the comptroller presented the January 2025 financial summary: general fund revenues through January were $1,618,234, or 12.1% of the total budgeted revenues for the year. Revenues that month included $1,500,000 in general property taxes, $28,000 in building permits and $5,600 in recreation fees. Expenditures through January were $854,570, or 6.4% of total budgeted expenditures. Net revenues over expenditures as of Jan. 31, 2025, were $763,665.
City Administrator Scott Simpson provided updates on upcoming and ongoing items: the State of the City will be held March 4 at Tattersell Distilling; the mayor's cocoa conversations are scheduled for Feb. 20 at Hoffman Park; and three major construction efforts '1 the fire station, the library and the biosolids building '1 are progressing (design phases for fire station and library, a substantial portion of the biosolids facility constructed and equipment awaited; staff said operation is on track for fall). Simpson also confirmed hiring and personnel news noted by the mayor: two new police officers will be sworn in next week (Hannah Olson and Connor Belfield) and Brooks Ostendorf started as the city's new conservation parks manager. The mayor also recognized former mayor Jerry Wilkins for emeritus board-member status with the River Falls Economic Development Corporation.
No formal council action was required on these updates; they were presented as informational reports.
