The Robertson County School Board on Feb. 10 recognized Brenda Stevens, a school nutrition technician, as the district’s employee of the quarter and received the Human Resources personnel report listing multiple retirements, resignations and new hires.
District staff said Brenda Stevens was hired Dec. 14, 1999, and has worked at Watauga and Greenbrier (transcript: "Green Bear High School") during her more than 25 years of service; staff described her as dependable and willing to go above and beyond. The board also heard the human-resources report that identified several certified staff who have announced retirements effective at the end of the school year, including Julie Anderson (East Elementary), Leanne Blick (East Elementary), Elizabeth Carlson (Whittall), Linda Dean (Westside), Carrie Hudgins (East Robertson High), Anita Thomas (East Robertson High) and Tammy West (Woodall). The classified report listed three retirements and named bus drivers Sherry Bradshaw and Nancy Whitney and teaching assistant Kathy Wilkins among recent personnel items.
On tenure, Dr. Weeks explained the district’s tenure process and said teachers must demonstrate consecutive high evaluations to receive tenure. "One of the responsibilities that we have every year is to identify those teachers who are eligible for tenure, and that process means that they have to have outstanding test scores, outstanding evaluations from their administrators," Dr. Weeks said. The board voted to approve the presented tenure recommendations; Dr. Weeks said the tenure becomes effective when the teacher is hired for the new school year and that, for this group, tenure will be effective Aug. 1.
