Superintendent warns of potential overnight weather, updates on PowerSchool data incident, ICE concerns and strategic plan

Superintendent Dr. Griffin told the board Feb. 10 that the district was monitoring a possible overnight weather event and coordinating with emergency services, the sheriff's office and the Department of Transportation to assess morning operations.
Dr. Griffin also addressed a widely reported data-security incident involving PowerSchool, saying the incident "had nothing to do with our school system" but that PowerSchool had communicated with affected families and was working to secure data and assist those impacted.
Regarding reports of possible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence in schools, Griffin said the district is "working diligently with any law enforcement" and emphasized the district's priority is safety and that the system will "always adhere to the laws" while protecting staff and students.
Dr. Griffin provided an update on the district's five-year strategic plan (year five), saying committees with internal and external partners are developing mission and vision statements and that a draft document would be presented to the board and public before the end of the year. He also described a recent "faith family collaborative" meeting with local churches to discuss partnership opportunities and said more outreach is planned.
Griffin asked families to use caution if the morning commute had slick spots even if the district remained on a regular schedule.
