Board approves three policies on second reading and takes first reading on several governance and administrative policies

The Alexander County Board of Education voted Feb. 10 to adopt three policies on second reading and took first reading on a group of governance and administrative policies.
Andrea Robinette presented three policies for second reading: Policy 32.27 (web page development), Policy 34.10 (testing and assessment program) and Policy 34.20 (student promotion and accountability). The board approved those policies on second reading by voice vote after a motion by Board Member Anthony McLean and a second by Board Member Arcueyas; the motion was recorded as carried unanimously.
Robinette also presented several policies on first reading that reflect recent procedural changes. The first-reading items include Policy 20.10 (board and superintendent relations), Policy 22.10 (duties of officers), Policy 22.30 (board committees), Policy 22.40 (school advisory councils), Policy 23.02 (remote participation in board meetings) and Policy 23.20 (compliance with the open meetings law). Robinette said those policies were amended to remove references to board committees after a change in how the board handles committee work. The board approved the set of policies listed for first reading; other policies (21.30 board member compensation and expenses, 32.25 technology responsible use, 76.50 employee travel reimbursement) were presented for first reading but not asked for approval that night.
The approvals were recorded by voice vote and the meeting minutes will reflect the board's action.
