Thurston County health officer to step down in March; interim appointment planned

Thurston County’s health officer announced at the Feb. 11 Board of Health meeting that she will step down from her county role to return to clinical work; her final day was given as March 5, 2025.
The health officer said she will remain involved in the community part time and expressed gratitude for colleagues and board members. The board said it will sign a regional memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enable an interim appointment. County staff named Doctor Allison (packet reference) as the interim health officer under the regional MOU while the county posts the position and follows the board appointment process for a permanent successor.
Board members and county officials publicly thanked the departing health officer for leadership during the pandemic and for ongoing support to schools, vaccination events and county operations. Staff said administrative steps to implement the MOU and interim coverage would proceed and that the board will be involved in the final appointment of a permanent health officer.
