St. Charles North ensembles selected for Illinois Music Education Conference; district celebrates students

Two ensembles from St. Charles North High School were chosen to perform at the Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria, a selection district leaders said has not happened in more than 25 years.
The Board of Education recognized Feb. 10 that two ensembles from St. Charles North High School were selected to perform at the Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria.
District guests and music staff spoke to the board about the selection. Mr. Masters and other music staff said the ensembles were chosen from submitted recordings and will perform at a statewide convention attended by thousands of music educators.
A student who spoke about the experience described months of preparation, including receiving music at the end of the prior school year and rehearsing through the summer and evenings: “we had been actively practicing, rehearsing, doing late night practices ... it was still, I think, a great experience being able to practice and perform in front of so many different educators and also different influential people in music,” the student said. Another student said the trip was “truly a changing experience.”
Superintendent Dr. Gordon called the recognitions an “incredible reflection of the student body in D303” and thanked students and staff for their work. The presentation was part of the superintendent’s report; no formal board action was associated with the recognition.
