County plans first adult changing station in annex; initial work estimated at $15,000–$25,000 per room

Policy and Governance representatives and building staff discussed adding adult and child changing stations and childproofing lactation rooms at county facilities on Feb. 11. An initial scope of work discussed included opening walls and adding bathroom accessibility so that adult changing stations would meet applicable turning-radius and fixture requirements.
Staff estimated initial costs at roughly $15,000–$20,000 per room for the most complex conversions, and suggested the county likely will need two such stations in the Annex and two to three in the Courthouse to meet the referenced 2,000-foot travel/coverage guidance. "That that is for that estimate is for the first door, west end, taking the lactation room, opening the wall up so that the bathroom facility is is accessible, making that a location for this purpose and installing the adult changing station there," a presenter said.
The committee agreed the Annex first floor west end would be the logical first installation and discussed funding from existing project allocations. A speaker suggested setting aside an initial $25,000 figure to start the Annex work; staff said existing budget activity could cover that early stage and that a further, larger funding plan would be brought forward as planning continues.
