Whitfield County's deputy finance director presented December 2024 financials at the Feb. 10 commission meeting, reporting year-to-date revenues and expenditures and a near-$587,000 surplus after adjustments and previously approved amendments.
Staff reported year-to-date revenues of about $49.2 million and expenditures of about $63.8 million. The presenter noted that some figures remain subject to year-end journal entries from the annual audit, which began the same week. The transcript record included family of line-item amounts and a summary that revenue was $340,000 higher than budget while expenditures were $247,000 lower, producing a surplus of roughly $587,000.
Commissioners were told actual fund balance for December was about $20.1 million; staff said timing of property-tax collections would increase that balance to a notional $31.8 million if property taxes had been collected on the usual earlier schedule. SPLOST 2024 and SPLOST 2020 receipts and expenditures were also summarized during the report. The board approved the finance report as presented in a recorded 4–0 vote.
The county said a new audit firm had been engaged and auditors began work earlier than in prior years; staff said more adjustments may follow the audit.
