Budget Evaluation Team approves transfers, defers jail discussion; minutes approved

The Oklahoma County Budget Evaluation Team approved several procedural and funding recommendations during its Feb. 11 meeting.
The team voted to approve the minutes from its January meeting and took formal action on a pair of county transfers and on the committee’s agenda items. Members voted to strike item 4 (a fuller discussion of the county’s plan for the new jail) from the agenda and to defer item 5 (a study about the Criminal Justice Authority taking full operational responsibility for medical services to detainees) to the committee’s next regularly scheduled meeting.
The body recommended that the Budget Board transfer up to $117,300 from the general fund reserve to the County Election Board to cover costs for a special election on April 1, 2025; meeting discussion specified the transfer as “not to exceed $117,300” and as a one-time use of reserve funds. The committee also recommended a transfer of $66,127 from the general fund reserve to the IT department as a benefits correction for an identified budget shortfall; discussion referenced that the underlying error dated back to September 2023.
Votes were taken by voice; minutes and the transfers passed with members responding “aye” during roll call. The committee placed the CARES Act audit finding (see separate article) on the watch list to keep it under continued review.
The actions taken at the meeting reflected procedural approvals and recommendations to the Budget Board; formal appropriation or payment would occur only if the Budget Board acted on the committee’s recommendations.
