At the Feb. 10, 2025 meeting, committee members reviewed an MOU between the Board of County Commissioners and the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office to fund pretrial release supervision and GPS monitoring for the remainder of the fiscal year. Staff reported that an employee in the position did not take county benefits but did take county retirement, which freed up funds that can be reallocated to cover GPS monitoring and a cell phone for the employee.
County staff reported that the District Attorney’s Office will return $8,317.74 to the BOCC; staff estimated GPS monitoring would cost about $3,000 per month and that the returned funds would cover a couple months’ worth of GPS payments. The intention is to process GPS payments through the end of the fiscal year and address long-term indigent GPS funding in upcoming budget discussions (BET). The current MOU covers costs through the remainder of the fiscal year and was recommended for BOCC approval.
The committee moved to recommend approval of the MOU for the remainder of the fiscal year; the motion passed by voice vote.
Ending: Staff will process GPS payments using reallocated funds and raise longer-term GPS funding options in budget discussions later in the year.
