WSDOT updates Bothell council on I‑405 express toll lanes project; design about 60–70% complete

Powell summarized 2024 accomplishments — traffic shifts, utility relocations, bridge foundation work and fish‑passage construction — and identified work areas north and south of the Sammamish River.
The briefing emphasized multimodal components: three new Sound Transit BRT stations, new pedestrian and bicycle connections and a new pedestrian bridge near the Kenmore Park‑and‑Ride. Powell said the project will include temporary trail detours and brief daytime closures: “Trail users will anticipate some brief daytime closure of the trail, ranging from 15 minutes to 45 minutes,” she said, and she added that many of the changes are expected to ease before summer.
Council members asked about local impacts. Councilmember Lawrence praised work on Little Bear Creek (referred to in the briefing as Little Par Creek) and asked when intermittent trail closures will occur; Powell replied closures will be daytime and expected to taper before summer. Councilmember Curry asked about worker safety and speed enforcement in work zones; WSDOT noted state patrol enforcement and said they are exploring pilot speed‑camera options. Councilmember Dodd asked whether pedestrian infrastructure near Canyon Park and the SR‑527 overpass was in scope; WSDOT confirmed new elevators and pedestrian-bridge connections are included.
