Vigo County Council approves investment policy, salary and insurance appropriations; tables assessor reorganization

The Vigo County Council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance authorizing the county treasurer to invest public funds under Indiana Code 5-13-9-5.7 and approved several salary- and insurance-related appropriations. The council also voted to table a personnel reorganization in the assessor’s office.
The investment ordinance authorizes the treasurer to invest county funds pursuant to Indiana Code 5-13-9-5.7. An unnamed presenter told the council that "somewhere in excess of $8,000,000 was earned on the interest from the investment to public funds during the last calendar year," and that part of those earnings were attributable to ARPA dollars. The ordinance was approved by roll call, 7-0.
The council approved a salary ordinance to restore a council-administrator position and passed the related additional appropriation for salary and benefits. The appropriation package listed a salary amount of $53,172, a FICA figure shown in the request as "04/1968," PERF $7,551 and insurance $12,926 for a total of $77,717; the council approved the appropriation by roll call, 7-0.
Council members also approved an additional appropriation for council-member insurance (vote 7-0) and handled several health-department grant and program requests. One package of small-fund requests was amended to remove a proposed Intrepid Phoenix application; the council voted to approve the remaining appropriations, 7-0.
On personnel matters, a proposed consolidation or reorganization in the assessor’s office was tabled at the request of county staff after questions about the underlying Baker Tilly staffing study and contract status. Councilman Gentry moved to table the assessor appropriation request; Councilwoman Wilson seconded and the motion to table passed 7-0.
