The vote followed a series of district-hosted community meetings and more than three hours of public comment at the board meeting in which parents, students and neighborhood advocates urged trustees to delay or reject the plan.
Superintendent Dr. Micah told trustees the recommendation responds to sustained enrollment losses and a structural budget shortfall that the district projects will persist unless larger changes are made. “Hope isn’t a strategy,” Dr. Micah said during his presentation, adding the consolidations and other measures are intended to reduce recurring costs and preserve classroom services.
